In the spring of 2020, out of the turbulent first wave of COVID-19, Lavender Sea Trading Company was born. Our quest and values were inspired by major events and meetings in our lives. The youngest Captain aboard our ship, Xander Viger, is a member of the High School Graduating class of 2020 who had their year shipwrecked by the storm caused by a global pandemic. With a dark, uncertain future ahead, he readied himself to chart his own course through the fog of uncertainty that lay ahead while the lighthouse of higher education assists along his journey.

It was in Grade 11, when Xander found his true passion for business through an SFU Business Students Entrepreneur Competition, which involved building a map to a successful enterprise while crafting a raft out of ingenuity, creativity and teamwork. Xander and his mates were

rewarded with the treasure of First Place! Researching and selling their all-natural lotion bars introduced Xander to the importance of putting the environment first, which is a key value of everything LavSea does. 

Jason, a mentor and early supporter of our venture, has a spectacular Lavender Farm near Cultus Lake, BC. In conjunction with his Farm Yoda & Botanical Wizard, Herbert, the small batch Lavender Hand Sanitizer they sell locally in the upper Fraser Valley helped inspire our LAVENDIZER® Premium Lavender Essential Oil Hand Sanitizer. With Jason and Herbert as our tailwinds, we strive to deliver our treasured cargo to home ports throughout Greater Vancouver. 

The concept of the LavSea Marketplace resulted from witnessing the challenges that Jason and Herbert experienced to bring their small batch, farm crafted hand sanitizer, oils, soaps and other creations to market. With the troubles washed ashore by COVID-19, we observed first-hand the impact of our dependency on products manufactured overseas. However, along with this, comes the opportunity for nurturing and growing local, small-scale manufacturing.

For small scale businesses to thrive and survive, they need to focus on their creations and the cores of their business, which the LavSea Marketplace enables. By allowing our Creator Partners to focus on their products, LavSea handles sales, marketing, and distribution while building their brand and identity.

We charge a fee that is a fraction of what they would spend themselves to generate the same amount of sales. That way, they are able to reach more local consumers and more easily operate profitably. We then deliver on our mission of putting healthier products in people’s homes in ways that minimize the environmental impact through reduced packaging and efficient transportation.

Our ‘Next Captains of Industry’ program takes students fresh out of High School with Entrepreneurial or Business aspirations and brings them aboard our ship for a planned 3-6-year program operated in tandem with their post-secondary education pursuits. While giving them life, employment and small business skills, we hope to ‘teach them to swim and fish’, then “bid them fair winds and following seas” when they are capable of making it on their own. We will support and assist them as they set sail as Captain of their own journey as a future business owner, job creator, and community leader.
